# Favicon and app icon

Your theme’s **Favicons** block (or favicon settings) controls the small **browser-tab icon**, optional **theme color** for the browser UI, and, when set, the **PWA / app manifest** (e.g. maskable icon, short name). Set it once in the theme.

## What you can set

| Option               | What it does                                                                                                                     |
| -------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Favicon** | Image shown in the browser tab (and bookmarks). PNG or JPEG; often 32×32 or 48×48. |
| **SVG** | Modern browsers can use an SVG favicon for a sharp look at any size. If you provide one, it may be used instead of the PNG/JPEG. |
| **Theme color** | Color used by the browser (e.g. address bar on mobile). Any valid CSS color. |
| **Short name** | Short label for the app/site (e.g. “StoryPress”) in the manifest. |
| **Maskable icon** | Icon made for “maskable” use (e.g. home screen). Often 512×512 or similar; see your theme or PWA docs. |
| **Background color** | Background color for the manifest / splash; can match your brand. |

***

## Where to set it

In the theme, look for **Preferences** (or similar) and the **Favicon** / **Favicons** area. Upload the favicon (and SVG if you have one), set theme color and short name, and add a maskable icon if you want a polished install experience.

***

## Tips

* Use a simple, recognizable mark so the tab icon is clear at small sizes.
* Set **theme color** to your primary brand color so the browser chrome matches.
* If you use a **maskable icon**, follow safe-zone guidelines so important content isn’t cropped on home screens.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://storypress.gitbook.io/storypress-docs/theme-and-setup/favicon.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
